One way visionary leaders can effectively communicate their passion and enthusiasm for their vision is by creating a clear image of that vision through storytelling.

In other words, an effective leader is able to take us up the mountain – figuratively speaking –  and lay out the unfolding bird’s eye view of that vision from the summit.  That is achieved through storytelling, by taking us from where we were (the valley) to where we could be (the mountain top).

A great example of a passionate leader who exemplifies the use of storytelling is Brian Chesky, one of the co-founders of Airbnb. The day he launches Trips, the next evolution of travel, he weaves several stories into his narrative to help take the audience from a conventional and generic travel experience to the vision of a far more authentic and personalized one.

Visionary leaders are storytellers because they understand the power a story holds in moving people’s hearts and compelling them to embrace a future they can become a part of.
